This beauty is Piper’s mama, with her second litter of the year. She is really super sweet and affectionate. There are five babies, all healthy and doing well. They’re 6 days old today. As far as I can tell, there are four boys and one girl. I’m working on some names and I’ll do proper introductions very soon 😍 @whiskersnpurrs said.

I know everyone was hoping for a reindeer theme but sorry that’s not happening. Christmas is over in a week and I don’t want to be referring to Comet and Blitzen in February! 😝

I was holding one of the little boys and I thought to myself, he looks like a little old man, and the name Walter popped into my head. So, going off that I’ve chosen names that have a classic vibe. There were so many good ones to choose from!

Allow me to introduce in order… Mama Maxine, Walter, Stanley, Alice, George and Theodore (we’ll call him Theo). Because they are from the same family as my three current fosters, we’ll keep the same hashtag #tabbykittenclub
I have a feeling Alice may turn into a colourpoint. Let’s hope it’s Lynxpoint so she fits in with all the other tabbies ❤ @whiskersnpurrs said.

Piper, Whisper and Tavish all went to the vet today for their spay/neuter surgeries. Everything went well and they were so brave. Home now and resting after a yummy dinner and lots of snuggles with foster mom ❤ @whiskersnpurrs said.

All the babies are slightly underweight for their age, but gaining steadily. Swipe left to see how Theo feels about weigh-in 😝.

The first photo is Walter, he gained 9 grams since yesterday. But Theo was the big weigh-in winner with a 15 gram gain! I’m so thrilled as he was the smallest, but now he’s tied with George 😍

The chunkiest monkey award goes to Miss Alice, who is the first to break into the 200’s!

Daily weigh-ins at the same time of day is the best way to monitor new kitten’s development. If they stop gaining, or start losing weight you can quickly take action before they go into crisis 🐱 @whiskersnpurrs said.

You guys, this mom! She is so lovely. Maxine had her first litter at six months old (Piper is one of them). This group is her second litter this year. She’s only a year old and has barely had any time to be a carefree kitten 😢

She’s doing a great job of caring for her babies but I can’t wait until this is all over for her. She’ll be spayed and we will find her a great home where she will be so pampered and loved ❤

Giving meds to unsocialized cats is always a bit of a challenge. I like to have play time and wait for them to be relaxed, and get used to a bit of touching. Then when the moment is right and they’re in a good position, I quickly hold the back of their neck and squirt it in. It all happens so fast they don’t really know what hit them. And then they just go back to playing! This method works well with the pain meds as it doesn’t have an awful taste. Other nasty testing meds require wrapping in a purrito 🐱 @whiskersnpurrs said.

Stanley had a visit from the eyeball fairy last night!

Kittens’ eyes open between 7-10 days. Their vision and hearing is still very poor at this stage. They rely on their sense of smell which is why Stanley is hissing at me. I just washed my hands and apparently he’s not a fan of coconut 🤷🏼‍♀️ @whiskersnpurrs said.

All is well here. Sorry I’ve been absent. Huge storm hit our Island and the power has been out over 24hrs now. I just drove into town to charge my phone and find a bowl of soup!

We are managing. It’s pretty cold but we have a propane fireplace to sit by. My biggest concern was keeping all the fosters warm, especially the babies. Last night we were able to use a camp stove to boil water for a hot water bottle and I’ve put that in the nest. I also have those great little heat packs that one of you sent from my wish list that are meant for using in the snuggle puppy. They are working great for keeping warm beds for the tabbies as their room is the coldest.

I don’t have cell service at home so will likely be out of touch until the power is back on. Just wanted to let you know we are all ok. Oh, and George had a visit from the eyeball fairy last night ❤ @whiskersnpurrs said.

Good morning! Our power came back on at about 2:30am and it was SO nice to wake up to warmth this morning! And hot coffee ☕️

The tabbies were champs. The foster room is definitely the coldest room in the house. Luckily they have fur coats! I couldn’t help but think of all the street cats who have to survive in much colder temperatures outside, without the benefits of a foster mom tucking a hot water bottle in their bed, and bringing bowls of food.

Please consider fostering. Often friendly cats are released back outside after TNR because there’s no foster home available 🐱 @whiskersnpurrs said.

The babies are 16 days old today. They are holding their heads up and moving around more. Everyone’s eyes are fully open so they’re more alert and aware, even though they can’t see clearly. Their little ears are starting to pop up and the ear canals will be opening so they can hear sounds. So much happening in these tiny little balls of fluff! Oh, and they’re crazycute 😍 @whiskersnpurrs said.

I know it looks like I’m getting dirty looks, but these two are actually progressing really well. Whisper is a total sweetheart and adores pets and snuggles. Tavish loves me most when I’m handing out cookies 🙄 @whiskersnpurrs said.
