Sage gave birth last night to five little kittens! I just missed the birth, so I couldn’t get the video… it looked like the last baby came out maybe 30 minutes before I woke up! They all seem to be doing well, suckling away! I’m going to give Sage and the babies a chance to get settled and get some rest before I start weighing them and getting pictures.

Finally got a chance to weigh them… all good weights! We do have a little guy, one of the black ones, that is 96g, which isn’t too much of a concern. Just about 10 grams less than his siblings.

I did check their genders (although us humans aren’t always the best at guessing correctly!). If I am correct, then the white w/ black spots and the grey/white kitten are females. The two black kittens and the tuxie are males! @windycityfosters said.

Little kittens Basil isn’t gaining weight. He’s still stuck at 108 grams (3.8 oz) while his siblings are around 150g. His ribs are also more prominent than the others’. I’m going to start supplementing and giving him “private” nursing times with Mom. I was warned this could happen with inbred kittens.

The good news is he is still active and has a strong voice, he is warm, and he is sleeping in the kitten pile, not off to the side. I’m really hoping he starts thriving and gaining weight.🤞🏻 @windycityfosters said.

Everyone’s doing ok this morning! Basil gained 2 grams last night, not as much as I wanted, but still better than nothing! He is now at 110g.

Nutmeg also has me worried because she hasn’t gained well either. She is at 120g. I’m supplementing her as well. @windycityfosters said.

An update on the #herbkittens: •
•Basil is still doing ok besides the slow weight gain. He’s active, warm, and nursing. I’m supplementing every two hours with 3 parts goat milk 1 part KMR.

•Nutmeg isn’t gaining either, which is strange since she’s always nursing. I’m concerned it’s a congenital issue. I also noticed she had blood in her poop, which could be worms or it could be an effect of congenital issues. This is most likely affecting nutrient absorption. I’m supplementing her same as Basil.

• Rosemary and Parsley are the largest. Doing very well. Cayenne is a bit smaller, but is still gaining and doing well. @windycityfosters said.
