new foster kitten babies! These guys were pulled by @andersonanimalshelter from an overcrowded animal control yesterday.

Introducing my new foster babies! These guys were pulled by @andersonanimalshelter from an overcrowded animal control yesterday. At this particular AC, kittens are placed in front of a plate of wet food…if they eat, they live. If they don’t and require bottlefeeding, they’re immediately euthanized due to the fact that they have no fosters to feed kittens overnight. These three decided to give the wet food a try and it saved their lives. ⁣

So here they are! They’re in rough shape. A 3-4 week old kitten should weigh around 400 grams and they weigh around 200 grams. They were caked in food and poop, so I spent 3 hours cleaning them up last night. They’re good eaters and have already latched on to the bottle, which is great news! Fingers crossed they keep that appetite up. Individual introductions coming later today. Welcome little sweethearts!!♥️ /   @windycityfosters said .

Name reveal! In the spirit of the fall season, these babies will be named after apples!🍎 This little tabby boy is named Braeburn. He’s the smallest of the three, but he’s catching up! He LOVES to be cuddled and wants to be sleeping on my lap at all times. I’ve only known him for two days but I’m already in love. Welcome Braeburn!♥️

This little doll is named Gala! She’s the only girl in this bunch. She’s a ferocious eater and has the most adorable chub belly…and the most adorable little face, and the most adorable ears, and the most adorable triangle tail. What I’m trying to say is: SHE CUTE. Welcome Gala!♥️

Last but not least, meet Cameo! This little greybie is a total sweetheart. He’s a super lovey boy with a motor purr! This is the first solid grey kitten I’ve ever fostered—have any of you fostered/adopted a grey cat? If they’re anything like Cameo, they’ve got a big personality (and a loud voice haha)! Welcome Cameo!♥️

Oh, Cameo. He’s refusing the bottle and turns his nose up at slurry, he’s a little constipated, and his weight isn’t going up as quickly as I’d like it to be. I’m now force feeding him KMR made with pedialyte and probiotics through a syringe every few hours. My guess is that the KMR has thrown his digestive system for a loop (as it commonly does) and he needs time to adjust. Thankfully he’s still active and playful, so I’m hoping the issues resolve quickly with supportive care. I can’t wait to see him with the same chub belly as Braeburn and Gala. Come on baby boy, you got this ! 💪🏻🍼

When I was touring a wildlife clinic last year, I saw something interesting…they were using recycled mascara wands to clean a group of baby squirrels that had been brought in! Not only was it relaxing to them, but it helped clean food/dirt/fleas out of their fur. Thought I’d give it a try on the apple kittens. Gala was my first test subject and I’d say this was a success! Mascara wands for the win!♥️

Look who gained 15 grams yesterday AND started showing a lot more interest in slurry! Cameo is still being force fed KMR every 4 hours to make sure he’s getting enough to eat, but we’re making great progress!🍎

Me when I wake up to rainy, windy, cold weather…anyone else want to join Cameo in his blanket cave?🙋🏻‍♀️
