cat Eliza is here!
And what a sweetheart she is. She was bought in to the shelter as a stray and it’s uncertain how far along her pregnancy is. The staff said she had a little bit of lactation from just one of her nipples a few days ago and no more since. Her appetite is great; she does the “infinity symbol dance” around my ankles and purrs up a storm.
Welcome, little lady! @kitten_faces said.
Oh hi. Checking things out. See that happy tail? We love her already!
Eliza’s kittens will have names from The Wild Thornberrys. @kitten_faces said.

She’s squirmed herself into our hearts. ~Eliza~
Everyone is asking me these same questions, so I’ll address them here-
Q. When will the kittens be born?
A. I don’t know. I’m not seeing any kittens’ movement in her belly yet and she’s not producing milk. She is getting bigger though!
Q. How many kittens are in there?
A. 17! Just kidding, we have no idea. 😂
Q. Why do we not allow Eliza full reign of the house?
A. Our house is big, and it’s not kitten-proofed everywhere. I have tons of houseplants that aren’t safe for cats. The foster room is a safe place. We also wouldn’t want Eliza to deliver her babies under the sofa or somewhere that would be difficult for us to monitor them. In the kitten room she has access to vertical surfaces, two large windows to look out, a heated platform, toys, beds, blankets, boxes, etc. It’s a large space. My husband works from home most of the time, and I am home, so she’s constantly checked on and visited frequently. She and I have an afternoon coffee break, and she naps on my lap. Yesterday Cam and his girlfriend “borrowed” her and took her to their apartment (very close to us).
Q. How old is she?
A. She’s a young mom, maybe 2.
Q. What’s her back story?
A. Someone brought her to the shelter after finding her wandering around as a stray. Clearly she has not lived outdoors all her life; she’s extremely friendly and comfortable around people. My thoughts- her owners never “got around to” spaying her and she got pregnant, so they may have dumped her. Again, that’s just my guess. Regardless, this baby is safe here, and soaking up lots of love and affection. @kitten_faces said.

Baby Girl has a kitty cold, aka upper respiratory infection, and has been sneezing a lot. Fortunately it’s not affecting her ravenous appetite. We started antibiotics 2 days ago. The meds are safe for pregnant moms. Is it me, or has Eliza only grown more beautiful? 🤔 @kitten_faces said.

Eliza would like us to believe she’s weightless, but she’s 8.58 pounds of fluff and babies. 😽 @kitten_faces said.

Eliza loves her visits to my son’s apartment.
And let’s discuss this, because it’s going to come up, that yes, he’s in love with Eliza, but will he adopt her after her kittens are weaned? The thought has entered his mind. He says he’ll see how things are in the next few months. 😻 @kitten_faces said.

Eliza is shown on top in each of the photos, and my grandcat Jake in the bottom photos. Eliza reminds us a lot of Jake, not only in her coloring but in her laid back demeanor. Jake is much older, though; he’s 8 years old and weighs 12-13 pounds. We think Eliza is around 2, and she’s gaining every day- getting close to 9 pounds. @kitten_faces said.
