Yesterday afternoon I picked up a pregnant mama cat from the shelter (and also dropped off Primrose and the four 8 week old kittens to go to another foster as well). The shelter had estimated that the kittens would be born sometime next week. But to my surprise, a few hours after mama arrived to my house and settled down, she started having contractions! Yesterday night, mama cat gave birth to 4 healthy kittens. Mama cat is exhausted but really really sweet and attentive to her babies.

Mama and kittens need names! (For the kittens, I think that there are 3 boys and 1 girl). I usually like to have an overall theme when it comes to kitten names. So if you have any suggestions, leave them down below! ⬇️ @fosteringlove.pdx said.

Finally, meet IRIS. 🌸 Mama Iris is very affectionate (sound up for purrs!) and she does a good job at taking care of her kittens as well. Iris looks to be very young. She’s a small cat and the shelter thinks that she’s just a kitten herself. 😔 @fosteringlove.pdx said.

At only two days old, the kittens already have their favorite spots to nurse. However, for Clover and Willow, they are always fighting over who gets to nurse on top and who gets to nurse on the bottom. @fosteringlove.pdx said.

Whenever mama Iris is hungry, she will get up and eat wetfood from the food bowl only a few feet away from where her kittens are. However she will only eat for a few seconds before a a kitten will start crying and she’ll instantly return back to her kittens, even if she’s hungry. So for the past few days, I’ve been holding the food bowl right next to where mama Iris is nursing the kittens so that she can eat while she’s still with her babies. Iris is such a good mama. 💕 @fosteringlove.pdx said.
