I got this litter of four 3 week old babies this morning from another rescuer who was less experienced in bottle feeding and was getting a bit overwhelmed as they were wayy sicker than expected!
A good reminder to be as prepared as possible when taking in new fosters! There will always be something new to learn from each foster kitten and from other rescuers no matter your experience level. Be sure to have all supplies, rescue contacts for help in case of emergencies, and extra time in case things take a turn most importantly!
These 4 are in very rough shape, they lost a sibling, have awful diarrhea and aren’t yet fully eating on their own. They’re being tube fed every 30-45 minutes, getting fluids and antibiotics. One baby (last slide) is much worse than the others, she’s been weaker and fading on and off for a few days now and is being watched extra closely but none of these babies are out of the woods yet as they are very fragile. They are very poopy and have a lot of scalding from that on their legs for now but can’t be bathed until they’re more stable. @teenytinyfosters said.

The new foster babies are still hangin in there! No major improvements, they’re comfier and a bit less poopy because of antibiotics. Their bellies are most concerning especially for this kitten because it’s pretty distended as well, along with dehydration and not eating. The person who was feeding them prior gave them over a dozen things that shouldn’t be given to kittens, and within a span of 3 days. It’s hard to tell what’s exactly going on or if we can reverse any of the issues caused by some of these medications and other things they were given but I’m continuing to feed them and watch closely so they can get as big as possible to have the best chance. Some are doing better than others but all have some very weird bellies and symptoms. Hopefully they can work those out of their system and recover with time and care🤞 @teenytinyfosters said.

ntroducing the #cocktailkittenss! They got a cocktail of meds before I got them seems fitting to name them cocktails. In order I’ve got Mojito, Bellini, Cosmo, and Martini. They’re all doing so much better every day, everyones off the tube eating on their own and all got a real bath last night. They’re looking like new kitties but still being watched very closely! ♡ @teenytinyfosters said.

This little one has made some improvements since yesterday! Her energy is better, she can walk and even play wrestled with siblings this morning! Her nose is still a bit dry and pale but not nearly like it was initially, even starting to get a little pink coming in. She got a super quick 2 minute butt bath to start working on that extreme scalding but will need a few more over time to get fully clean✨
All are still getting tube fed, the siblings happily drink from the syringe after but she’s not ready yet. All seem much happier and gaining strength overall! Kittens who’ve declined in any way especially to this extent need to be watched very closely for many days even once they appear to be better. They’re still just as fragile but I’m optimistic about the improvements so far! @teenytinyfosters said.

Bellini and her floppy little ears are just too cute for words! She’s the poofiest one of the #cocktailkittenss and has become very serious about her milkies making up for lost time from tube feeding ♡ @teenytinyfosters said.

Cosmo is the best eater, his ear wiggles and tail wiggles while also shaking in excitement is just perfection✨😹

Bellini had to lick her lips after her favorite milkies ♡

Bellini and her after milkies hiccups and bonus closeup of her little face and giant eyes! She’s the sweetest little thing. 💕🍸 Bellini lost the tiniest tip of her tail a few days ago. Because of the severe scalding she came to me with, the tail was basically a big dreadlock. Despite all the baths the tip never fully retuned to normal and eventually that tissue died then fell off. This happens with babies sometimes for different reasons but as long as the tissue looks healthy after the tip falls it can heal. If not healthy it can become necrotic and need more medical attention. Thankfully Bellini’s remaining tail is healthy, she’s on antibiotics again and medicated ointment and it’s already looking better and better! @teenytinyfosters said.
