The Kitty Bake Oven is fired up again! kittens

These 4 babies are 12 days old. There were 6 kittens but 2 passed last week. They were born outside to a very young mom, who rejected them, so they were brought to the shelter at only one day old.

I was asked if I wanted to take them but at the time I was still bottle feeding the Pooh kittens and we had family visiting. So the shelter director has been caring for them, and she works full time. That’s a lot to take on, especially because these babies were not doing well and all had to be tube fed.

We are happy to have them here temporarily to give our shelter director a break. They have already been named and I’ll share those later. @kitten_faces said.

New tinies had a good feeding, and a quick wipe down because 💩

They were named by the shelter staff, after fast food places. Mom is Wendy (as mentioned in previous post, she rejected her kittens and is at the shelter awaiting spay surgery). Babies are Zaxby, Rally, and Quizno, all boys. Anne is the only female.

I know it’s going to come up- why the collars? For identification; each kitten is weighed multiple times a day, and the amount of kitten formula they eat is recorded, as well as “bathroom habits”. It’s an easy way to keep all of them straight for now. The collars are soft velvet with Velcro and they are checked to be sure they fit just right. On their teeny tiny necks the collars look huge. Think of them as helping, not hurting the kittens. Collars are especially beneficial for those middle of the night feedings, when I use a dimmer light. @kitten_faces said.

Baby Anne drinks her milkies. 🍼

Can’t wait to see the 4 of them “cuten up.” Right now they’re crusty from formula dribbling down their little bodies. I’ll let them get a bit more stable before baths are given. Baby wipes and damp washcloths can only do so much. For now, “embrace the crustiness” 😸 @kitten_faces said.

A meet and greet with Quizno. This baby has the most white on him. He’s been a tiny troublemaker since the wee hours of the morning when he decided to not eat. Thus, he’s been on the feeding tube. It looks like he’s ready for a haircut in the barber chair because I wrap a small towel around him with only his head out while I tube feed him. This keeps his paws from pulling the tube out and makes him easier to hold onto.

When I ask him “Quizno, why? Why are you not wanting your milkies?” you know what he says? Nothing. 😽
We hope he feels better and regains his appetite soon. @kitten_faces said.

Up close with Rally. He’s our athletic kitten. Currently Rally competes on the Neonatal Kitten Volleyball team. Getting him back and forth to practice has been difficult because he’s either sleeping or eating. @kitten_faces said.

You could say being excited about bottle time is an understatement.

It has now 48 hours since the #fastfoodfelinebabies first came here. Here’s the latest:

Quizno has not had to be tube fed for the past few feedings! He only drinks about half of what he “should” be per feeding, and has not lost any weight but he’s not gaining like the others. Yet. I have confidence he will. 😽

Zaxby has developed a very loose stool, which may be attributed to a diet change. (Different formula than what they were on). Keeping a close eye on him. At this time Zaxby (Z) is still the biggest kitten of the 4.

Annie (I’m calling her Annie because she looks more like an Annie than an Anne) is feisty and demanding. She usually gets fed first. She is quite a bit tinier than the boys. 😸Keeping my eye on her also because I caught her suckling on her brothers and if that continues she will need to be separated from them.

Rally is an easy neonate. He has perfect 💩, he’s a robust eater, and he grows fluffier by the day.

Today they are 2 weeks old and they weigh what a 1-1.5 week old kitten should weigh. They had pretty low birth weights. Operation Kitten Chunky is underway. @kitten_faces said.
