Today, the babies discovered Mount Scratcher. @kitten_faces said.

So many of you have remarked that these mommy cats look like mountain lions. I agree! They are gorgeous, are they not?

Engaging cats in play is great for them. It is a stress reliever, and fulfills their innate desire to hunt. You should actually let them “catch” their prey from time to time.

I don’t think Elli is going to stroll up to me and sit in my lap anytime soon, but she has not growled today and seems quite interested in this toy. We’ll take that as a win. @kitten_faces said.

Loni, Tappi and Linguine all had weight losses today. Nothing drastic, but I’m keeping a close eye on them. Loni is in the incubator again and she got subcutaneous fluids and a B12 injection, plus I’m hand feeding her Baby Thrive. I’ve noticed the moms do not spend much time nursing the kittens, especially Elli. So I’m supplementing with kitten formula as well. All of them are still on antibiotics.

This just goes to show how fragile kittens who are born outside can be. Mommy cats not having good prenatal care is also a huge factor in the health of young kittens. Compared to Eliza’s babies, these 5 are much less robust. @kitten_faces said.

Good morning from Kittenland 🌞
(Loni and Macaroni spent the night in the incubator) @kitten_faces said.

Loni enjoys 2nd breakfast this morning. First one was in the incubator earlier with Macaroni (yes there were 2 bowls in there but they chose to eat from the same one).
Loni has a teeny weight gain from last night but she still is not out of the woods. Her tiny face and body are skin and bones.
Today will be a day of more subcutaneous fluids, another B12 injection, nebulizer treatments and naps in the Kitty Bake Oven. For now, she’s enjoying being free reign in the kitten room with the others. @kitten_faces said.

Good morning from Kittenland!
Ziti and Elli love watching me clean. I’m sure they’re saying to one another, in their own language, “Foolish woman! She has no clue this will be a mess again in 20 minutes.” @kitten_faces said.

Inspection complete! The moms seem pleased with my efforts to clean the room.

Speaking of cleaning, I attended a meeting years ago about fostering, and it’s recommended that you do not do deep cleaning with a lot of chemicals while you currently have cats and kittens. It can be unsafe for one thing, should anything get on their paws, and some smells can stress them out.

To mop the floor I’ll use a drop of Dawn or another mild soap added to a whole bucket.

And changing out bedding is only done if soiled with urine or feces because the kitties gain comfort in something that smells like them. The blanket that is on top of the rattan ottoman (IKEA) which Elli always lays on has not been changed out for this reason.

Litter boxes are another subject however. They should be cleaned regularly especially when kittens have loose stools. Cleaner litter boxes mean cleaner floors, too! 🤓 @kitten_faces said.

Spaghetti the kitten. Not to be confused with spaghetti the pasta. In fact, if you were to put marinara sauce on him, or a couple of meatballs, you would mess up the glorious floof he has.
So please, no sauce on this deliciousness.
