This little kitten guy was born to a very young mom who nobody even knew was pregnant until she gave birth yesterday. One kitten was stillborn and the two survivors have some continental defects in their back legs that we will worry about later.
Late-night critical care intake.
He is 56 grams, one of the smallest kittens I have ever encountered. He’s active and has an appetite, but mom was moving her nest and leaving him behind so he could not stay with her. Here’s to a night of hourly tube feedings and hoping those energy levels don’t dwindle.🤞 @themarigoldkittencrew said.
Update on little preemie kitten! He is doing a good job of gaining weight and clocked in at 68g last night. He tries to suck on the tube when feeding, however still struggles with the nipple in a way that risk aspiration so we are going to stick with the tube for right now. It’s what’s working. We’re trying our very best! @themarigoldkittencrew said.
The sad news. The little preemie kitten unfortunately crashed last night. I see this often, where a critical kitten will begin to improve and then go rapidly downhill. Their damaged or malformed organs can no longer sustain them once their bodies start to grow. Rest In Peace.♥️ @themarigoldkittencrew said.
