Last night, we asked for your help to save 6 kittens who have panleukopenia.
The two youngest kittens we are introducing today are Clementine and Mandarin! They are 4-5 weeks old and were the weakest when they arrived. They were taken quickly by the team to attempt to stabilize them. They have been on IV fluids for almost 48 hours and are receiving intensive treatments. They are getting back on track and everything is leaning towards them getting out of the emergency centre and into an experienced foster home as well!
To be honest with you, we had accepted them, while believing that the disease was already too advanced and we thought we would have to euthanize them that very evening! We didn’t want them to suffer unnecessarily. We thought that we would focus on the older ones who seemed to be doing a little better. Clementine and Mandarin have not spoken their last word, they decided to fight! So, we fight with them! 💪
Saving 6 kittens from panleukopenia is a bit crazy. It is expensive and requires a lot of management. It also implies that a foster family will have to close for months, because panleukopenia is very resistant in the environment. We are talking about 6 months to 1 year. @one.cat.at.a.time.rescue said.

Our foster mom says it’s impossible to take a picture of us together. It seems like we are in good shape, yet on May 14, 2022, we were so sick. We were vomiting, we were all cold and our gums were white! The person who had us at her house said we were very weak and she asked for help to save us! Meggie, from One Cat at a Time, quickly went to the emergency room to take care of us and try to save our lives. Everything went so quickly. We were rushed to the back with Dr. Lamoureux. She took good care of us, she stabilized us and we were put on intravenous fluids and given aggressive treatments so we could get back on track. One cat at a time knew that if our condition became more serious, it would be time to let us go, but we weren’t ready to say our last word. We wanted to fight and after 48 hours of intensive treatment with a great team to care for us, we were discharged from the hospital. The vets were so happy, they were a little surprised actually. We were very lucky to be treated quickly! Since last night, we are with Marie, the founder of the organization. She gives us a lot of care and we have several meds to take. She says that we are real fighters, but that panleukopenia has its ups and downs. We have to follow the treatments closely to stay well! They said we are two extremely lucky kittens, as the organization paid $3097.45 for our 48 hours of hospitalization and also took 4 other kittens that were in the same house!
