Mama Sam was my first pregnant foster. She gave birth on Thanksgiving Day 2016. I was there for the whole birth and it was magic. I was very lucky that there were minimal complications as I now know that’s not always the case🙏🏻.

The four babies were perfect and plump and healthy. Three boys and a girl, so I thought. I named them Nic (St Nicolas), Noel, Rudy (Rudolph), and Holly. Although Holly later turned out to be a boy 🤦🏼♀️ @whiskersnpurrs said.

When the babies were 3 weeks old I left on a very poorly timed Christmas vacation. I now know that 3-4 weeks is my absolute favourite age for kittens and would never miss it 😍 #holidaykittensweek @whiskersnpurrs said.

Mama Sam got sick with an infection and had to spend a night at the vet. The babies accepted me as stand-in mom for the night, but were wholly unimpressed by my lack of functional nipples 😆 @whiskersnpurrs said.

Everyone always wondered how I could tell the gingers apart. As newborns it was impossible so I used to put ink dots on their toes. After a while it started to become more obvious who was who.

In this photo it’s L-R Holly, Noel, Nic, Rudy. Rudy was easy to tell apart as he was darker ginger and the biggest. Noel had white on his toes and chest. And Holly had resting worry face 😆 @whiskersnpurrs said.
