My poor adorable kitten baby Chanterelle passed away about an hour ago 🙁 She was one of the healthiest of the mushrooms and so easy up until late this morning when I went to feed them again and she was crashing. She got fluids and Karo and I moved the other kittens to a carrier with a heating disk so she wouldn’t have them climbing on her in the incubator. She continued to decline though and then started having pink fluid come from her nose which indicated a bigger problem and I knew she wasn’t going to survive at that point. After asking around I was told she could’ve have had heart disease causing pulmonary edema or less likely could be caused by injury although she had no injury I knew about and seemed fine, but no way to know for sure what happened without sending her for testing which isn’t a great use of funds that could be used on cats and kittens that are still alive. @teenytinyfosterskittenkitten said.
Oddly enough last year almost to the day Mary Jane’s brother had died of a similar issue with the pink fluid and blood but was pulmonary edema caused by incompatible milk with the mom. This time it’s been too long away from mom to be the same milk problem and hopefully this doesn’t become a recurring anniversary every year!
The other 4 mushrooms are still doing as well as they have been, they’re dealing with some slight constipation but I always prefer that over diarrhea as it’s a much safer (and cleaner) issue to have! They’re getting an extra ½ part water in their formula to help out with that and I’m going back to feeding every 1.5hr instead of every 2 so I can check on them more often
♥︎ Link in my bio to help donate towards a larger incubator! It would def help in these sort of situations when I need to separate kittens for different reasons or can have more than one litter at a time also supports more features such as better humidity regulation etc!
*please remember to do your part! If you haven’t already, #spayandneuteryourpets and keep them indoors only unless they’re on a leash and supervised. Both of those things prevent needless suffering like this! So easy to do and has a huge impact on their health and safety!* #🌈
